How do you want to be remembered? What is important to you today that you would like to see continued beyond your lifetime? How could you

make a difference in your own community today that would help victims of domestic violence tomorrow?

Charitable gifts that are included in your estate plan are the best kind to give. They reflect a lifetime of careful thought, planning, and priorities you feel are important to continue. More often than not, these kind of gifts help a donor make a much larger contribution than they ever thought possible while still making sure that family members and friends are also provided for-it's a win-win situation!

The following are a few examples of a few ways in which you can create your own legacy. Note: EDVP strongly encourages you to consult your financial advisor before making a gift of significant size.

Charitable Bequest - an individual may bequeath a particular asset, dollar amount or a percentage of an estate after other debts and obligations have been paid. Bequests to EDVP are fully deductible for estate tax purposes. Bequests are by far the most popular way people support charitable organizations and are one of the easiest gift arrangements to make.

Life Income Gifts - charitable trusts and charitable gift annuities can provide life income to you and/or others AND allow you to gain an income tax deductions as well as avoid paying capital gains taxes on appreciated assets. There are a number of options within each gift arrangement to explore and consider, depending upon your financial situation.

Insurance Policies - You may name EDVP as the beneficiary of a new or existing individual life insurance policy. Life insurance policies can also be irrevocably donated to EDVP. In return you receive a tax deduction for the annual insurance premium payments which are contributed to us to continue making the premium payments.

There are many types and options from which you can choose to make a legacy gift. Anyone can leave a gift in their estate, even if you have a modest income. "Estate" is simply a word describing money or belongings you have at the time of your death. The most important first step in this process is to spend time reviewing your assets and discuss your plans and wishes with your family and trusted advisors. After that, have legal documents drawn up by a professional who is knowledgeable about estate or financial planning. And if you choose to include EDVP in your estate plan, we'd like to know so we can say thank you!

As a legacy builder, you can also choose how you would like to have your gift used. There are several options to choose from and include directing your gift to our endowment fund, current year operating support or to support a program within EDVP that is important to you. It's your choice!
