Direct Service Volunteer Positions

 


Title Responsibilities Training Required Time Commitment
Crisis Line Advocate Answer crisis calls during assigned shift
Assist clients with information and referrals
Use crisis intervention and advocacy-based counseling skills focusing on safety for victims of domestic violence
Safety Plan
50 hour Volunteer Training
Daytime crisis line observation
Attendance at quarterly inservice trainings
Bimonthly debriefing meeting
Minimum 6 months
Approx. 6 hrs/week (4 shifts per month)
One holiday shift a year
Legal Advocate Provide information about victims' services
Provide basic education about patterns and cycles of abuse
Provide emotional and physical support to victims involved in criminal court system
50 hour Volunteer Training
Attendance at quarterly inservice trainings
Additional legal training at arraignments
Six (6) months Crisis Line experience
Minimum 6 months
Approx. 4-12 hrs/month
Approx. 3-4 hrs/day between 2-4 times a month
Safe Home Provider Create accepting & comfortable short-term living space for clients
Provide necessary emotional support
50 hour Volunteer Training
Attendance at quarterly inservice trainings
Coordinate with Shelter Director
Minimum 6 months
Approx. 1 placement/month
Shelter Advocate Provide emotional and physical support to victims and their children
Use crisis intervention and advocacy-based counseling skills focusing on safety for victims and their children
50 hour Volunteer Training
Attendance at quarterly inservice trainings
Experience as Crisis Line Advocate recommended
Minimum 6 months
Approx. 12-16 hrs/month
Variable hours (day/night)
Shelter Support Provide transportation to victims
Provide support to shelter staff in the day-to-day workings of the shelter program
Provide respite childcare
50 hour Volunteer Training
Attendance at quarterly inservice trainings
Crisis Line training highly recommended
Minimum 6 months
Approx. 8-10 hrs/month
Children's Program Advocate Provide emotional & physical support to children attending a weekly support group
Use crisis intervention and advocacy skills focusing on safety for the children
50 hour Volunteer Training
Attendance at quarterly inservice trainings
CPR Training recommended
Minimum 6 months
Approx. 3 hrs/week
Approx. 12-16 hrs/month
Support Group Advocate* Facilitate peer support group in conjunction with staff person
Offer crisis counseling, education about patterns and cycles of battering, peer support, development of problem-solving skills in a safe, supportive environment
*Assignment to this position subject to interview and approval by Program Director and Clinical Supervisor.
Six month Crisis Line experience.
Minimum 12 months
Approx. 4 hrs/week
Approx. 16+ hrs/month
